PUPILS at David Livingstone Mission School in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North have been urged to take education seriously.

Various speakers at the school’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations and Prize-Giving Day yesterday said it was important for the pupils to do their core business rather than diverting their minds.

“Pupils have to put more focus on their studies rather than hoping to get married at this point. Marriage is not an achievement but passing your studies is,” said Mrs Mercy Ndlovu the deputy headmistress.

The school head, Mr Vusumuzi Nkiwane, said the school is taking a leading role in the province as it is improving each year.

“The school has been one of the leaders of the pack as an educational institution in Matabeleland. We have produced many great people here who are shining throughout the world,” he said.

In the national Ordinary Level results for 2014, the school stands at number 55 up from 64 in 2013 while it stands at number three in Matabeleland North province as a whole and position two in the district. The school is currently constructing a laboratory for their Advanced Level science pupils.

The guest of honour at the celebrations, Reverend Sifiso Moyo said David Livingstone as part of missionary schools were pacesetters in Africa. He lamented the fact that some pupils were failing because their parents do not support them, especially in the rural areas. He said parents want children to work in the fields during school holidays instead of making them read.

The school celebrated 50 years of existence.
