DAVID Livingstone Secondary School in Ntabazinduna celebrated its 50th anniversary in style, when it participated in a clean-up campaign at Ntabazinduna business centre.
School pupils, teachers and parents, together with the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), participated in the clean-up exercise.
The school is celebrating its achievements — since its establishment in 1965 — by giving back to the community.
Speaking during the proceedings of the campaign, David Livingstone Secondary School headmaster Mr Vusumuzi Nkiwane said the school was celebrating 50 years of existence under the theme: “Celebrating 50 years of excellence”.
“Ever since the school’s existence, it has been scoring success after success. Today we are giving back to the community. We are actually celebrating with those who put the stone first and we are putting another one on top.
“This clean-up campaign which concentrated on business centres is one of those events that are unfolding as we are celebrating and they are culminating in the big celebrations that will be held on 26 September,” Mr Nkiwane said.
“We work closely with the ward five councillor, who is pivotal in terms of developing the school thus today we decided not to think about ourselves only but to look at the environment. Today we have set the ball rolling for our Golden Jubilee celebrations. We take into consideration also that our school has been rated the best in the country in two consecutive years, this past year we sent a chess student to Greece and in December she is going to Zambia, all these achievements are worth celebrating.”
Ward 5 Councillor Bekithemba Qogo said the exercise linked the school to the local community.
“I believe this is not the last time the school is going to do this but the exercise is an eye-opener and it is actually setting the pace for what other schools will do as far as helping the community is concerned,” he said.
