David vs Goliath

IT’S a fight between David and Goliath as the Warriors hosts the Indomitable Lions in a AFCON Group J qualifier at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Uganda tonight.

Kick-off is 6pm.

The odds are suggesting that this should be a light mission for Cameroon to inflict pain on the Warriors.

And, it becomes even more difficult to build a case against the odds since Zimbabwe have failed to record a win against the same side in their three previous attempts.

Cameroon have all the juice to make the day forgettable for the Warriors coach, Micheal Nees who registered a goalless draw on his first mission against Kenya at the same venue last week.

Cameroon boasts an array of global stars like Manchester United’s first choice goalie, Andre Onana, Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford and Napoli’s Zambo Anguissa.

Warriors defense will have their work cut out for them as they try to contain the visitors’ forward, Vincent Aboubakar and Christian Bassogog.

The reality is that the Warriors will have to summon all their fighting spirit to upset the second most successful country having lifted the AFCON five times.

And, their defender, Munashe Garan’anga, who is expected to lead from the back, has declared they have not been losing sleep over this fixture.

He argued that they are motivated to down the Indomitable Lions.

“They are very good players and we are ready and excited to face them because for us to be at the AFCON we have to win against the best,” said Garan’anga.

“I think it’s going to be a tough game but anything can happen in football, the boys are ready for the match.

“We have been together for a long time now and we have also great relationships off the pitch but our problem has been the change of coaches and I would want to believe that it’s now an issue of the past.”

He added:

“I think it was a decent performance from the team especially when considering that we have a new coach.

“We can only do better if we train as hard as we can and implement what the coach is bringing to the team.

“If we can apply all the things that we are learning from him, I think we get somewhere.”
