Day observed

Gender and Community Development (WAGCD) in commemorating the International Women’s Day.
Provincial development officer for WAGCD Mrs Tekcla Madziwa said  commemorations this year focused on rural women.
“As we commemorate our day, the main focus is mainly on rural women as they are deprived of many things like justice and we are fighting to make sure that they are also recognised in many sectors,” she said.
The ministry was also fighting gender-based violence and seeking to create a 50-50 environment in all sectors of life.
They were also working to empower women from grassroots level economically, politically and socially.
“We have realised that most women suffer domestic violence because they are not economically empowered and they are dependent.”
