They have, however, said provinces that conducted their polls fairly must be spared.
An extraordinary session of the Zanu-PF Politburo in Harare on Wednesday resolved that Cde Shamu investigates disturbances that characterised DCC elections in Masvingo and Manicaland.
Cde Shamu was mandated to nullify elections where irregularities were revealed and call for poll reruns.
In separate interviews yesterday, Zanu-PF provinces said the decision was in line with democratic principles and ensured unity in the party.
“Politburo has taken a right decision. This is a noble approach to democracy,” said Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial chairman Cde Lovemore Matuke.
He said the return of Cde Shamu to provinces would help resolve challenges that emanated in some provinces during the DCC elections.
“It is like an appeal court where people raise their problems and have them resolved.
“In the spirit of building our party, I think it is a good decision by the Politburo,” Cde Matuke said.
He added: “In Masvingo province the political commissar has addressed some of the issues and we are set to have a re-run in Chiredzi.”
Cde Matuke described Cde Shamu “as a quite fair man who looks at a problem as it is”.

Zanu-PF Matabeleland South provincial chairman, Cde Andrew Langa, echoed the same sentiments.
“It is proper that the national political commissar conducts re-runs where there were anomalies like the intimidation and the imposition of candidates.
“Let him revisit such provinces so that we re-unite the party but where things were done fairly there is no need to destroy what was done,” he said.
Cde Langa said Matabeleland South province did not experience challenges that manifested themselves in some of the provinces.
“In my province I did not face any challenges.
“Things are moving smoothly and I do not have any problems at all,” he said.
Cde Langa attributed the tranquility in the party’s Matabeleland South province to respecting democratic principles.
“We allowed people to apply for positions and they went through the process and got vetted. They are happy,” he said.
Mashonaland Central said it fully supported the decision by Politburo.
“We stand by the ruling of the Politburo. We do not defy any decision.
“When they feel things did not move according to the constitution, they have to investigate and address the problems,” said provincial chairman Cde Dickson Mafios.
He said Cde Shamu must, however, confine investigations to areas where irregularities were reported.
“In the event irregularities do not exist, there is no need to come and carry out investigations,” Cde Mafios said.
Cde Ray Kaukonde said Mashonaland East was yet to go for polls and as such it would be imprudent for him to talk of the pending investigations by the national
political commissar.
Mashonaland West provincial chairman, Cde John Mafa, said it was noble where there was evidence that elections were not conducted properly for Cde Shamu to carry out investigations.
“Let there be investigations in such provinces as this is the only way to address the challenges,” he said.
Meanwhile, at its Politburo meeting on Wednesday, Zanu-PF also discussed the issues of Daniel Shumba (Masvingo) and Goodwill Shiri of Mberengwa who have pending disciplinary cases.
“The Politburo reaffirmed the party’s position that Daniel Shumba the founder and leader of the United People’s Party (UPP) expelled himself from Zanu-PF when he formed his party and must follow laid down procedures if he wants to be readmitted as a member of the revolutionary party.
“Goodwill Shiri also expelled himself from the party when he stood as an independent candidate against the party’s candidate in the 2005 elections and has not yet been readmitted into the party and he must follow established procedures to be readmitted into the party.
“Provinces have no authority to handle these cases which can only be dealt with by the Politburo and the Central Committee upon request as the two organs have the final say.
“We are therefore advising all Zanu-PF members that Daniel Shumba and Goodwill Shiri have no right to represent the party in any capacity until they have been cleared,” said Zanu-PF spokesperson Cde Rugare Gumbo.
