BOSSO fans have been left buzzing after a bombshell from coach Pieter de Jongh, long-time club man Abraham Mbaiwa is out of Highlanders’ technical team.

The former Bosso player, who had been serving as fitness and conditioning coach, was quietly sidelined before the 2–1 Chibuku Super Cup win over Scottland FC. De Jongh confirmed the move, saying, “All I can say is he (Mbaiwa) is no longer part of our technical team. I can’t comment further, maybe the administrators will do so soon.”

Mbaiwa still cut a familiar figure at Barbourfields, watching the pulsating clash from the VIP stand in full club colours.

The shake-up followed friction over national team duty. De Jongh reportedly wanted Mbaiwa to stay with Bosso even after he was called to serve the Warriors during the recent international break.

For the first time in years, the players warmed up without their trusted fitness and conditioning coach, a sight that stunned many fans.

Mbaiwa kept his cool, saying, “I will soon engage with the club leaders and be advised further about the development.”

Highlanders chief executive Denzel Mnkandla backed his coach’s right to act. “At Highlanders FC, the head coach is mandated to restructure and redeploy members of his technical team as and how he sees fit, as he has an oversight role across all teams. It is against that background that Mr Mbaiwa has been reassigned,” Mnkandla said.
