De Jongh-Muza fallout puts Highlanders’ goalkeeping in jeopardy

HIGHLANDERS Football Club risks going to their next away match against Bikita Minerals without a substitute goalkeeper following a fallout between new head coach, Henriek De Jongh and Reward Muza who has all along been the club’s first choice.

Muza, with the second least number of conceded goals from the number of games played, was this past weekend on the bench as veteran shots topper and club captain Ariel Sibanda was entrusted with guarding the goalposts against Telone in which the troubled giants fell 0,2 and also missed a penalty.

Sources said the decision to bench Muza was taken by the Dutchman who made it clear that his first choice will be Sibanda.

“Muza was upset by the unexpected relegation to the bench and did not report for duty on Monday. On Tuesday the coach demanded answers and an altercation ensued, resulting in the coach telling him to pack his training equipment and leave,” said a source.

Club chairman Kenneth Mhlophe confirmed to Zimpapers Sports Hub that Muza did not attend training on Monday and that he failed to provide any reasonable explanation as to why he did not report for duty.

“Yes the player did not report for training on Monday he did not phone the manager or visit the doctor,” said Mhlophe.
