They said the woman who stays with her children in Mkoba Village 19 was now being harassed by the deceased man’s spirit.
The neighbours said the husband’s illness was worsened by the assaults and bad treatment at the hands of the wife.
“The husband would always complain of ill-treatment to his relatives whenever they visited him. The man was bed-ridden for sometime,” said a neighbour.
The neighbour said since the death of the woman’s husband, strange things have been happening at the family house.
“It is said that a baboon was once spotted at the house and disappeared mysteriously after causing a stir at the house. It was suspected that it was the man’s spirit,” said the neighbour.
The neighbour said on one occasion the whole family and their property found themselves outside the house and no one was hurt neither was the property stolen.
“This house is certainly cursed. Her children always have nightmares and sometimes they don’t sleep, crying for long moments, claiming they are seeing things.
“The children said they once saw their father’s image,” said the neighbour.
Another neighbour said the woman was inviting a neighbour to sleep over at her place because of the strange happenings.
“The family is so scared that they always invite neighbours especially men to sleep at their place as the strange happenings usually occur at night,” said the neighbour.
Some of the people who refused to be named said they were once invited to sleep at the house.
“Strangely we did not see anything when we slept at the house. We were awakened to pray so that the evil spirit could stop harassing the family.
“However, we heard noises of the woman screaming and assumed that probably the spirit had visited her again. Her children also claimed to be seeing strange things,” said one man.
The man said the woman’s neighbours said their nights were disturbed as the woman would be crying and singing gospel songs probably in a bid to chase away the spirit.
He said the woman once invited a traditional healer to conduct a cleansing ceremony and he left a wingless dove in the woman’s room divider.
“This did not help as the spirit continued to haunt the family,” said the man.
When contacted for comment, the woman identified only as Amai Samantha refused to comment on the allegations.
“I don’t want my personal life publicised. I cannot talk to you about that and it has nothing to do with the press anyway,” said Amai Samantha.
However, the woman’s daughter, Samantha, confirmed the incidents. She said they suspected it was her dead father’s spirit that was coming back to haunt them.
Samantha said her father fell sick last year and was admitted to Gweru Provincial Hospital where doctors recommended that he should be taken care of at home. It was after a long illness that he eventually died.
“My mother suspected foul play but did not confront anyone. We are therefore appealing to the world at large to assist us or to refer us to any spiritual healer who can help us,” she said.-Chronicle
