Debutant Jim enjoys stellar season

TAFADZWA Jim has had a stellar season for Herentals, scoring six times, in his debut in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign.

The 19-year-old is one of coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziwa’s key players, after being elevated to the PSL side, from the Herentals Under-20 team.

He was the Young Students’ top goalscorer with 13 goals, in 2019, and wants to carry his goal-scoring prowess into the big league.

Herentals will be facing log leaders FC Platinum at Mandava in their next league game on Saturday.

Jim said he is looking forward to them collecting, at least a point, in Zvishavane.

“It’s good that I’m gaining experience in my first season in the PSL.

“I think I’m doing well, but l want to push hard to help my team win the remaining matches.

“I want to improve daily for me to be considered among the best players.

“We are playing against the log leaders and it is difficult playing against them at Mandava, as they are always dominant at home.”

He added:

“So, we are going there to fight for points.

“We have to relax and enjoy our football since there is no pressure on our side.

“We know they will be desperate for the three points to quickly secure the championship early. “That could work to our advantage, as we can exploit their desperation.

“My target is to score more goals and also add to my number of assists.

“Honestly, despite it being a debut season for me, I am a little bit disappointed because I wanted to score more goals this season.”

Herentals are sixth on the league table with 44 points, which is their best campaign in their history.

FC Platinum just need six points to wrap up the league title from the last five games.

The champions have 64 points while second-placed Chicken Inn are on 54 points.
