The court said it will continue to do its work as the judicial monitor on the constitutionality of the laws and regulations, saying that it will never be a part in any political conflict.
It affirmed that it has no relation with any situation created by any political force, and that its duty is to protect the constitutional legitimacy.
Morsi on Sunday ordered the dissolved People’s Assembly (lower house of parliament) to resume work in a presidential decree.
According to the decree, new parliamentary elections will be held within 60 days after the country’s new constitution is approved by a public referendum and the new law on the People’s Assembly fixed.
On June 14, the SCC ruled the People’s Assembly null and void as some articles of the parliament election law were unconstitutional.
The then-ruling military council ordered its dissolution in line with the verdict and resumed legislative powers.
However, the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and other Islamists have rejected the dissolution of parliament.
Morsi, from the MB’s Freedom and Justice Party, was sworn in as Egyptian president on June 30 before the SCC.
The military council, which took over power on February 11, 2011 after the resignation of ex-president Hosni Mubarak, later transferred power to the newly-elected president. — Xinhua.
