Decision to fire Dube communicated to Fifa, SRC

THE Zifa Assembly members who passed a resolution to boot out president Cuthbert Dube and two board members have communicated their decision to world football governing body Fifa.

Northern Region secretary Sweeny Mushonga, who chaired the meeting on Saturday, said they had also written to the Sports and Recreation Commission and the Confederation of African Football.

An emergency meeting attended by 30 councillors passed a resolution to kick out Dube and board members Tawengwa Hara and Fungai Chihuri.

Mushonga said the Zifa Assembly’s meeting was above board as they invoked Article 22 of the Zifa Constitution to fire Dube and the two board members.

“We called an emergency meeting on Saturday and one of the resolutions that was made was to revoke the powers of the Zifa president with immediate effect. Two other board members were also removed and these are Tawengwa Hara and Fungai Chihuri,” said Mushonga.

“A number of other resolutions were also passed and we’ve communicated to Fifa and the Sports Commission and we expect their response at their earliest convenient time.”

Mushonga yesterday called on the booted out members to respect the outcome of the meeting.

“Our appeal to the affected people is to respect this decision by the supreme council of Zifa and they shouldn’t try to fight against it because of some other flimsy reasons,” said Mushonga.

Among the constituencies were the PSL, Northern Region, Southern Region, Eastern Region, Central Region, Bulawayo Province, Midlands Province, Matabeleland South, Matabeleland North, Manicaland, Masvingo, and Women’s football, NAPH, Tertiary, Area Zone, Beach Soccer and Futsal.

Mashonaland West, Harare, Mashonaland East and Mashonaland Central provinces did not send any representatives to the meeting.

“We’ve since written letters to the members concerned and expect to deliver them on Monday (today) but already they’ve received some form of communication,” Mushonga said

Charles Nhemachena, the SRC director-general said he had not received any official communication from Zifa on the latest developments.

“We don’t have anything official but we hope to get something maybe on Monday (today), since the meeting was held at the weekend. Naturally, we’re expecting something from Zifa and then we’ll issue a statement,” said Nhemachena. – Sportzone.
