Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980) Limited has appointed Mr Delma Lupepe and Mr Pikirayi Deketeke as chairman and chief executive office of the media, printing and packaging group respectively. Mr Lupepe,a renowned businessman and philanthropist, replaces Dr Charles Utete who stepped down from the board last month. Mr Lupepe has been a board member since 2009. Prior to his appointment, he served as the group’s chairman of Human Resources committee.

Mr Deketeke (49) takes over from Mr Justin Mutasa, who left the group in the second half of 2014. A career journalist, Mr Deketeke has worked for Zimpapers since 1987 when he joined The Sunday Mail as a junior reporter. He rose through the ranks to become Editor of The Herald in March 2001, a position he held for eight years.

Mr Deketeke was in 2009 appointed group editor-in-chief, assuming responsibility for implementing and guiding the editorial policy of all the group’s publications. He was responsible for managing all editorial issues, staff development and all content in the publications.

In 2011 he was appointed chief operating officer whilst he continued to serve as editor-in-chief.
