Buhera North MP, Cde William Mutomba (Zanu-PF) said the ZDF had not only shown discipline in defending the country’s territorial integrity but had also excelled in rendering their technical skills in various disciplines.
He was addressing villagers in his constituency after touring two clinics in the area being built by the Zimbabwe National Army’s Three Brigade. The legislator pooled resources from the Constituency Development Fund and from his personal coffers to build the two clinics at Shawa Garawava and Chiremwa Business Centre.
The ZNA’s Three Brigade offered artisans to build the clinics as part of the army’s assistance programme to communities. “A lot of people do not understand the role of the ZDF. There is the engineering department comprising various people competent in several disciplines and here we have artisans building these clinics,” said Cde Mutomba. Cde Mutomba is also a member of the Zanu-PF Central
Committee. Construction of the two clinics in Ward 11 and 13, Cde Mutomba said, would complement health programmes. The programme has seen the legislator bringing doctors and drugs to treat people in the constituency. “Health provision is quite a critical issue that seriously affects rural communities, particularly the elderly and the disadvantaged and that is why I bring doctors to move around offering free treatment to people.
“Health authorities in Buhera advised me that it was not proper for the doctors to provide the service at an institution that is not a health centre so I thought of constructing these two clinics,” he said.
Cde Mutomba said the US$50 000 allocated for CDF projects was not enough. He said he would have to secure additional funding for nurses’ houses at the clinics. In an interview, Three Brigade head of engineering, Major Chamunorwa Gambiza said the building of the clinics coincided with the ZDF Week.
“During peace time we assist civil ministries and communities in various works like building, painting and other related services.
“We do these things throughout the year but it is mostly during the ZDF week when our work is highlighted,” he said.
Chief Causemore Chimombe, urged people to elect hard workers, who would advance their causes. He hailed Cde Mutomba, who is the only Zanu-PF legislator in Buhera, for working hard for people in his constituency. “You need to be very careful when electing people. Some people quickly forget that they were elected to advance the interest of the people and start to think about themselves and their hangers on when they are elected into office,” he said.
