HARARE Rugby League side Police Defenders Rugby Club have gained promotion into the National Rugby  League for the 2015 season.
They have 40 points, 16 ahead of second-placed Southern City from Chitungwiza. The Defenders are expected to take on Southern City at Zengeza High 1 in Chitungwiza this Saturday.

Defenders coach Julius Madzima has hailed his players.

“We have already won the Harare Province League and we are due for promotion into the NRL. I believe we have worked very hard for it this season. The team that we have now is mainly police officers and a few civilians. We are ready for the NRL.

“We have been playing good rugby over the years, but lost it on the final hurdle. This time we made only one mistake when we lost to the Old Hararians II side.

“I feel we have worked very hard for it and the team deserved it.”
