Defensive driving courses are meant for every driver

encouraged to familiarise themselves with Statutory Instrument 168 of 2006 and the Road Motor Transportation Act.

A heavy vehicle is a vehicle whose net mass exceeds 2 300kg.
A public service vehicle is defined in the Road Motor Transportation Act and can carry goods or passengers.

Examples of public service vehicle include taxis, commuter omnibuses, conventional buses and haulage trucks. They are usually identifiable by red registration numbers on a white background.

However, it must be pointed out that failure to register a public service vehicle does not exempt the driver from this legal requirement.

Individual drivers can approach any of the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe offices and attend the course. Organisations can invite us to conduct in-house defensive driving courses in the comfort of their boardrooms. We conduct public courses “at station” in Harare, Mutare, Masvingo, Gweru Chinhoyi and Bulawayo.

Out-of-station courses can be organised and defensive driving experts travel to other towns to run the defensive driving course.

Individuals
Members of public can attend “at station” public courses in our spacious lecture rooms.
The courses are frequently conducted at our offices.

There is always an option of attending “out-of-station” courses that are conducted periodically in big and even small towns.

Such courses are run over a period of two days, which may include weekends in order to cater for those who may be unable to attend mid-week courses.

Usually there is a resident co-ordinator in the towns though traffic safety officers can arrive a day earlier and conduct an outreach and awareness programme.

Church members or any club members can request for courses, which can be tailored-made and spread over a longer period depending on their circumstances.

Companies
Most company policies have a defensive driver’s certificate as a prerequisite for authority to drive company vehicles.

Such companies have since reported a reduction in road traffic accidents. Organisations that would like to include the defensive driving certificate requirement in their transport policies are free to contact our Marketing Department for input.
