STAKEHOLDERS have castigated time-wasting antics deployed by some PSL teams as a shame which could drive fans away from the top-flight league.
They have called on the PSL to act swiftly and punish individuals and teams, who are in the habit of deploying delaying tactics.
Some analysts believe the Easter Monday match between Dynamos and Cranborne Bullets only saw the ball being played, in the second half, for about 25 minutes.
The other 20 minutes were lost to the gamesmanship of the Bullets’ ‘keeper Tatenda Makoni.
Shockingly, only five minutes were added.
Currently, there are serious attempts to try to motivate fans to attend matches after very low turnouts in the previous season.
Analysts fear some fans could be driven away by these shameful antics. Below are some of the comments from different football stakeholders after the Dynamos andCranborne match,
INNOCENT MUPATSI
“The delaying tactics l saw in the match today will chase away football fans. Strong match officials are also a necessary ingredient of our football recovery and, hopefully, the Bosso, DeMbare, CAPS, and Platso matches will be manned by competent match officials.”
DANAI CHITAKASHA
“My appeal to coaches in the Zimbabwe football fraternity, I know delaying tactics are tactics but for a league struggling to attract fans, make an effort to give the fans their money’s worth.”
ALOIS BUNJIRA
“The Cranborne Bullets goalkeeper should be summoned to a hearing by both his cluband the PSL. Fans pay to watch football, not the circus he displayed today with his feigning injuries antics. I don’t want to believe his own team was happywith his antics. That is anti-football. Hakuna bhora rakadaro. It contributed greatly to the damp squib that we watched this afternoon. And the referee was also shocking to add only 5 minutes.”
