DELTA Corporation working with Enactus Zimbabwe has vowed to continue funding local innovation, promoting entrepreneurship and supporting small-enterprise investment projects among youths through its social responsibility initiatives.
In an interview, Delta corporate affairs executive Mrs Patricia Murambinda said the local beverage maker has invested towards the youth enterprise development cause.
“A total investment of $50 000 has been put aside every year for the past seven years as Delta Corporation is involved in Enactus Zimbabwe programmes targeted at university students seeking to empower graduates with innovative entrepreneurial skills that help them start small businesses when they leave college,” said Mrs Murambinda.
She said at the moment the company is working on a new programme themed, “Make a Difference — Recycle”.
“In the last two years, our focus has been on the “Make a Difference — Recycle” waste management projects where the organisation is investing in innovative ideas on recycling non-returnable bottles, cans and PET bottles and this is part of our ‘Better World’ sustainable development initiatives.”
Operating as a flagship programme of Boost Fellowship, a youth-empowerment organisation, Enactus Zimbabwe is part of a global network of 36 countries established under the United States-based Enactus, which runs the world’s largest annual entrepreneurial showcase and competition for youth entrepreneurs from around the world.
Enactus Programme has helped students from Zimbabwe’s tertiary institutions to initiate income-generating projects which create or support the livelihoods of a large number of disadvantaged people.
“With support from Delta and other sponsors, Enactus Zimbabwe has managed to help students around the country to foster entrepreneurial skills among the youth. For the ‘Make a Difference — Recycle’ programme we are working with Delta, over 400 students have benefited directly this year and many more have also benefited indirectly. Our relationship with Delta has grown for the past decade, it’s like brewing Chibuku,” said the Boost Fellowship — Enactus Zimbabwe executive director Mrs Busisiwe Marandure.
Meanwhile, a group of young Zimbabwean entrepreneurs will be attending the Enactus World Cup to be held in Silicon Valley San Jose California, United States from 9-11 October where they will exhibit their local innovations and entrepreneurial accomplishments on the international stage.
