DELTA Corporation, a key sponsor of golf in Zimbabwe, has pledged to continue supporting the sport in the country to facilitate its growth.

As one of the sponsors of the recently concluded 2024 All-Africa Golf Team Championship (AAGTC) at Bulawayo Golf Club, Delta played an instrumental role in the event’s success.

Through the AAGTC Legacy Golf Programme, the company collaborated with the R&A, the world governing body of golf outside the Americas, to donate junior golf kits to three Bulawayo clubs – Bulawayo Golf Club, Bulawayo Country Club, and Harry Allen Golf Club – with their respective club captains accepting the donation.

Delta Bulawayo plant manager for lager beer, Tonderai Tshuma, reiterated the brand’s commitment to supporting golf in Zimbabwe and pledged to continue doing so.

“As Delta, we have been supporting golf for the past 50 years and we are looking forward to continuing to support golf as an organisation. Golf development in Zimbabwe will always be at the heart of everything that we do in our business, so to the Zimbabwe Golf Association, we will always support you. You can always knock on our doors and we will be ready to give you sponsorship,” she said.

The R&A also donated Titleist golf balls to coaches from Egypt, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, which are part of the All-Africa High Performance Programme.

ZGA president and Africa Golf Confederation vice president, Martin Chikwana, expressed gratitude to R&A and Titleist.

“I wish to extend our gratitude to R&A. As you may know, these are All-Africa High Performance coaches who are doing great work. If you look at the leader board, these are the countries that are showing big performances,” said Chikwana.

“We are so grateful to R&A for ensuring that we continue to equip and capacitate the coaches so that eventually, the players produce good results. A big thank you to Titleist who have generously donated to the programme, we are so grateful.”

Kevin Barker, the director of golf development at the R&A covering Great Britain and Africa, also expressed gratitude to Titleist for the donation, saying it will help ease coaches’ jobs.

“I want to thank Titleist for their very kind donation of these practice balls to the national coaches. I am sure that will help them in their jobs. It’s a really important partnership with the R&A. We want to generate more, better top level players and I think this will help the coaches do their jobs better. We thank the support of Titleist and good luck to all the coaches,” said Barker. — @brandon_malvin
