A NEWBORN baby girl was rescued after being found abandoned at Hot Springs Clinic in Chimanimani, with police appealing for information to identify her mother.
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the infant was discovered on August 1 by a group of artisanal miners passing-by the health facility.
The miners alerted police at ZRP Nyanyadzi, leading to the rescue.
“The informant in the matter is Masodzi Chibuwe (48), of Chibuwe Village under Chief Mutambara. Upon receiving the report, police attended the scene and found the baby alive. The infant appeared physically fit and had no visible signs of physical harm. She was immediately taken into police care before being referred to Mutambara Mission Hospital for further medical attention,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
The baby was admitted to Mutambara Mission Hospital and remains in a stable condition.
Police have launched investigations to establish the identity of the child’s mother and the circumstances surrounding the abandonment. Assistant Inspector Chinyoka urged the public to assist. “We are appealing to anyone with information regarding the identity of the child’s mother or any circumstances surrounding the abandonment to report to the nearest police station. Any information received will be treated with the confidentiality it deserves,” he said, while warning against abandoning children.
