Bab prepares for Cimas iGO Half Marathon

THERE is significant progress in preparations for the upcoming Cimas iGO half marathon at Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) on November 24.

This event aims to promote health, wellness, and mental health awareness, addressing a critical issue in Zimbabwe.

Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) chairperson, Watson Madanyika, has confirmed the BAC’s readiness for the event.

“We’re excited ahead of this year’s edition and are expecting some of our top athletes to participate. We appreciate our sponsors’ support for athletics. Registration for the five kilometre, 10km and 21km is $US15,” said Madanyika.

Thabo Mapfumo and Abigail Musarurwa were a cut above the rest last year and were crowned champions of the inaugural 21km race.

Mapfumo won the men’s race in one hour 16 minutes 33 seconds, with Tony Mpofu taking second place in one hour 25 minutes 28 seconds and Fidelis Bhebhe completed the top three after crossing the finishing line in one hour 27 minutes 19 seconds.

Musarurwa clocked one hour 47 minutes to win the women’s race. Moddy Chiwetu was a distant second in a time of two hours seconds and Beatrice Mpondi was third in two hours 27 minutes.

Albanas Tshuma won the men’s 10km race in 38 minutes 15 seconds followed by Lineker Ndlovu in 47 minutes and 14 seconds.

Tulange Mudenda took the women’s 10km run in 48 minutes 10 seconds with Sikhulile Moyo finishing second in one hour 15 minutes. — @innocentskizoe
