DeMbare aspirant saves Amagagasi

NHLANHLA Ndlovu arrived on Saturday night from Harare to save the day for Southern Region Division One Soccer League leaders Amagagasi on Sunday by scoring the solitary goal in the derby against Victoria Falls Tigers. Ndlovu, the league’s top striker with eight goals from nine outings, showed why his scoring abilities earned him a trial stint with Dynamos, who are in dire need of a gunman.

The Amagagasi striker went to try his luck at Dynamos without his club’s consent alongside attacking midfielder Jimu Muli.

Amagagasi coach Zibonele Ncube was full of praise for the striker, saying the risk to field him paid off.

“It’s a big risk I took to field Ndlovu without him training with us for a week. I got the courage to field him after taking into consideration that he had been training twice a day with Dynamos and was probably putting extra effort as he wanted to impress them. In essence, he saved the day for us,” Ncube said.

The Amagagasi gaffer conceded that Tigers gave them a scare.

“We had to dig deeper for the victory. We were lucky to come out with three points because they missed a penalty in the opening 10 minutes when my defender committed a foul. My goalkeeper Wellington Muuya kept us in the match saving that penalty and many other raids. Tigers are a good side and in my opinion, Sunday’s game was taxing, but I’m happy with the maximum points,” said Ncube.

The Tigers’ player, who missed from the penalty spot is Petros Nyoni, an ex-Amagagasi and Trumus Warriors right-back.

In another game, Bantu Rovers beat visiting Hwange Juniors 1-0, with seasoned forward Lenience Mpofu on target.

Rovers’ win took them to 24 points, one behind leaders Amagagasi after nine outings.

ZPC Hwange edged Bosso 90 1-0 at Chakona Stadium, while ZRP Bulawayo Province beat Indlovu Iyanyathela 3-0.

The police outfit got their goals from Mlungisi Ncube, Kelvin Sibanda and Zibusiso Dambo.
