The fact that DeMbare had gone for three matches without a win had added to the simmering pressure on Pasuwa.
Dynamos’ lost to Motor Action and Hwange in the Independence Trophy semi-final and third-place play-off with the defeats sandwiching a 1-0 league reverse against Monomotapa.
Yet the champions had got the defence of their title off to a perfect start with a clinical 3-0 win over newboys Hardbody.
It has been a busy schedule for Dynamos who are also expected to fly out to Tunisia this week for their Champions League second round assignment against Esperance in Tunis.
Pasuwa who had earlier in the week read the riot act on his strikers knew they had to win yesterday to avoid the ignominy of four successive losses that would have also dampened their spirits ahead of the resumption of their African Safari.
The Harare giants responded with a big win that must have also given new Black Mambas technical director Moses Chunga an insight of the task that awaits him at the police side.
Midfielder Denver Mukamba ensured Dynamos’ nerves were settled early when he struck in the sixth minute.
Mutuma then added his brace in the 14th and 90th minutes while the club’s leading striker Chinyama added his name on the score sheet in the 66th minute.
Warumwa Warumwa got their consolation through a penalty, which was converted by Kasimero Chimbadzwa.
Mukamba, who also broke his goal duck yesterday, opened the scores when he received a good square pass from Chinyama on the right and the lanky midfielder had the easy task of slotting home.
Former Legia Warsaw striker Chinyama turned provider again minutes later, when he did some fancywork on the left flank, left defender Ben Nyahunzvi for dead and chipped the ball to Mutuma who made sure by heading into the nets.
After the breather, the police side re-grouped and were threatening the hosts and it quickly paid off for them as former Dynamos forward Nicholas “Tico Tico” Alifandika was brought down in the box by David Kutyauripo and referee Pedzisai Chadya pointed to the spot.
Chimbadzwa then sent Dynamos goalkeeper Washington Arubi the wrong way with his kick.
The goal prompted Mambas for whom Chunga watched from the terraces, into looking for an equaliser.
They however, suffered a further setback when Chinyama scored his fourth league goal, and ninth in all competitions when he benefited from a blunder by Chimbadzwa and beat outdrawn goalkeeper Learnmore Jere to place the ball into an empty net.
Mutuma then completed his brace, when on the stroke of full time his header went in via a deflection off Nyahunzvi at the far post.
But to probably highlight what the win meant to their coach the DeMbare players did not perform their traditional “Zora Butter” dance routine each time they scored but instead rushed to the technical bench to mob Pasuwa in celebration.
Pasuwa said the win would motivate his charges ahead of the Champions League showdown with holders Esperance.
“I am happy for the boys and it is a motivation for the coming match which is a different ball game altogether. It was in their mind that they were leading 2-0 when they had a slip-up but it is part of the game,” said Pasuwa.
The coach was forced to make two injury-inspired changes replacing Milton Makopa with Devon Chafa in the first period and Chinyama with Martin Vengesayi in the 75th minute after they had sustained groin injuries.
Pasuwa was also happy that Mutuma had finally found the target and maintained that he had been asking the striker to be patient about getting his goals.
“That is what I was saying to them all the time that they have to be patient and goals will come,” said Pasuwa.
Mambas’ coach John “Toto” Ncube said it was a tough match and his charges failed to utilise their chances.
“It was a tough game and Dynamos managed to capitalise on their chances and we failed to do that. The third goal was the turning point for us as it was soft and really affected us,” said Ncube.
The match started with DeMbare dictating the pace and the early goals put them into the driving seat and overshadowed their midfield department, which again was struggling.
In the first period their chances fell to newboy Chinyama who blasted wide his 14th minute effort off a fine cross from Mutuma and later watched in agony just before the break as his thunderbolt crashed against the bar.
Mambas’ first meaningful chance came after half an hour when Alifandika, unmarked in the box, fumbled his chance shooting weakly at Arubi.
The police side came back strongly with Alifandika, former Eagles man Tsepo Rantokane and veteran Peter Kachirika causing some anxious moments for Dynamos.
In the 76th minute another former Dynamos player Sebastian Mutizirwa saw his shot being saved by Arubi after he had exchanged neat passes with Kachirika.
Mukamba could also have got his second of the day but his powerful shot was denied by the Mambas goalkeeper.
