Musician Tendai Dembo got a shot in the arm after he got musical instruments worth $19 000 from businessman Chivanga Ndhlukula based in the DRC.
Dembo who has since gone solo launched his album titled “Kupa Kwashe” last week at Private Lounge. The young Dembo could not hide his joy and appreciated the owner of Hi-Tech Motors Transporters Chivanga.

“This came as a big surprise when I received a call from Mr Chivanga telling me that he enjoyed my latest CD and wants to buy me a kit. I believe this development will boost my solo career and it will give me the opportunity to do more live shows,” he said. After their late father’s instruments deteriorated the band was hiring instruments when holding shows for the past four years.

Chivanga likened Tendai to his own son and pledged that the Barura Express would not die.

“I believe in this young man and I will continue to assist him in all ways until he gets to the greater heights of his career.

“I also gave him a pick up a few months ago which he is using to do business and I will assist him to market his music across the region.

Chivanga sponsored Dembo’s show held in April this year in Democratic Republic of Congo.

Meanwhile, Tendai forbid his elder brother Morgan from working with the band due to his indiscipline. Last year, Tendai and Morgan released an album titled “Kutsika Matsimba” but it failed to make an impact on the local market.

Tendai has been staging shows in and outside Harare with other musicians.
