Tryson’s manager, Nyasha Mugari, said the musicians have already signed the contracts to perform at the event. “The family failed to perform together at Simon Chimbetu’s commemorations because there was a communication break- down. This time, Tryson formally informed his elder brother (Sulu) about the event, and we are happy that Sulu has committed himself,” said Mugari.
However, it remains to be seen if all the musicians will walk the talk.
What is interesting to note is how Tryson and Sulumani will choose their play list as they usually play their departed fathers’ songs.
With every member of the family being present, the Chimbetu folk are likely to at least share the stage together in honour of their departed fathers on whom their success is heavily anchored.
Seeing the antagonistic Tryson and Sulumani together for a family gathering would be a refreshing sight for dendera lovers who were yearning for the two to co-operate.
In the past, accusations and counter-accusations of pride, stiff necks and selfishness has been proffered by each camp.
Alick Macheso, Peter Moyo and Munya Mataruse will all support the initiative.
What will be of interest is to see how Macheso and Suluman will interact.
The musicians’ relationship has been strained by dancer Slomo, who serially flip flops between the two bands.
Slomo has in the past been summoned to a disciplinary hearing by his paymaster Sulumani for breaching code of conduct especially running AWOL only to resurface at Macheso’s shows.
Macheso seemed to have been hard hit by Slomo’s departure, with some observers pointing to the song on his latest album to be a direct attack to the Sulu camp.
Sulu in turn has penned lyrics “Dendera hariteyiwe newaya,” that many believe are directed to the Mberikwazvo camp.
