Zimbabwe’s Deputy Tourism Minister, Hon Tongai Mnangagwa, has welcomed the initiative to host a continental golf tournament in the country featuring 20 teams from across Africa.
The tournament, set to take place from 27 October to 2 November, is expected to bring together some of the continent’s top amateur golf talent, providing a significant boost to Zimbabwe’s sports tourism sector.
“We are thrilled that Zimbabwe is hosting this prestigious tournament, which will not only showcase Zimbabwe’s golf prowess but also provide a unique opportunity to promote our country’s tourism offerings,” said Deputy Minister Mnangagwa on the side lines of the ongoing Sanganai-Hlanganani World Tourism Expo in Bulawayo.
“The presence of 20 teams from the continent will undoubtedly attract a large following of golf enthusiasts, which will have a positive impact on our local economy.”
The Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of sports tourism in Zimbabwe, citing the potential for growth and development.
“Sports tourism is a significant contributor to our economy, and initiatives like this tournament will help us tap into this growing market,” he added.
Zimbabwe has been investing heavily in its sports infrastructure, including the renovation of stadia and construction of new sporting facilities across the country. He added that the country is expected to benefit from increased exposure.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Zimbabwe to showcase its beauty, culture, and hospitality to a global audience,” said Deputy Minister Mnangagwa.
