THERE was drama at Rememberance House yesterday when more than 100 members of the Budiriro Heavy Weights Pay Scheme invaded the City of Harare Housing Department to demand explanation why some officials were allegedly colluding with land barons to displace people who were given land in 2018.
The land barons used fake City of Harare letterheads to craft court interdicts to bar 126 beneficiaries from their land.
The protesters demanded that the matter be addressed and those involved be brought to justice.
Many desperate home seekers have been complaining of delays in the processing of documents by the City of Harare Housing Department, with some having waited for years in vain.
“There is serious corruption here at Remembrance House and we want you to tell us how land barons are accessing letter heads of the City of Harare and abusing them in a way to displace beneficiaries of City of Harare land?
“One land baron went on to craft a court interdict to bar 126 beneficiaries, using fake documents with City of Harare letterheads, to bar us from the land that we legally acquired here.
“The land baron is busy making developments using fake documents in a way to seek regularisation from the City of Harare upon completion.
“He is further hiring private vehicles and engaging people in ZESA worksuits to intimidate real landowners in Budiriro.
“We want that matter to be addressed like now and those involved to face justice,” said the demonstrators.
