Develop positive attitude: Mugoba

ZIMBABWEANS have been challenged to develop a positive attitude and be forward-looking.
Speaking at a graduation parade of 437 soldiers who had completed their courses at the Zimbabwe School of Infantry in Mbalabala yesterday, Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Chief of Staff, Administration, Major-General Trust Mugoba said the nation needs to change its perception for it to prosper.

Maj-Gen Mugoba made reference to the speech that was delivered by the President Robert Mugabe when the country attained its independence in 1980.

“Independence will bestow on us a new personality a new sovereignty, a new future and perspective and indeed a new history and past. As we become a new people, we are called upon to be constructive, progressive and forward-looking, for we cannot afford to be men of yesterday, backward looking retrogressive and destructive,” said Maj-Gen Mugoba.

He added: “Our new nation requires of every one of us to be a new man, with a new mind, a new heart and a new spirit.”

Maj-Gen Mugoba said Zimbabweans should develop a positive attitude towards and conquer the country’s mishaps.

“It bestows upon us the latitude to venture into the future with pride knowing fully well that the road we have travelled has been a thorny one,” he said.

The students graduated in courses that include the senior non-commissioned officers management, the platoon sergeants tactics and the battalion support weapons users’ course.

The graduating officers were drawn from the Air Force of Zimbabwe and the Namibian Defence Forces.

Maj-Gen Mugoba congratulated the graduating officers for withstanding the gruelling training experiences saying some students had quit their studies.

“The courses were not easy as students had to drop out for one reason or another,” he said.

He reiterated that the economic challenges were not a permanent feature saying the soldiers have to be resolute in their endeavors.

“The current economic environment affected the provision of adequate resources to support your training but as seasoned soldiers I believe you are better placed to understand and appreciate the challenges the country is facing and how this would affect your training,” said Maj-Gen Mugoba.
