LAND development at Dunottar Farm in Manyame District, Mashonaland East Province, where residential stands for youths are being established by the Government, is progressing well, with the contractor promising to complete the first phase in May this year.

The first phase will see 2 500 residential stands being established, as the Second Republic continue to show commitment in addressing the needs of the youth.

Last week, ZANU PF Youth chairman for Mashonaland East Cde Isaac Tasikani, accompanied by his provincial executive and youths from the province, toured the construction site to assess progress, where he applauded President Mnangagwa for not leaving the youth behind in terms of development, which transforms their livelihoods.

“We are here as a provincial executive to see progress on developments in terms of residential stands for youths here at this farm,” he said.

“Yes there is notable progress in terms of land preparations, which are being done in phases. About 70 percent of the work has been done here on phase 1.

“We have seen model or demonstration houses being constructed, and this is the standard that we expect every youth who will benefit here to emulate.

“We have seen progress in terms of road works, sewer reticulation and other areas that should be done before beneficiaries start building their houses.”

Cde Tasikani said the contractor, Leengate Contracting, has promised to complete the first phase beginning of June this year.

“The developer told us that by the end of May this year, all the preparations in phase 1 will be complete and beneficiaries can start building their houses. We want to commend this progress,” he said.

“We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to President Mnangagwa for his commitment towards uplifting youths’ livelihoods. Youths will have houses, thanks to the President.”

A youth from Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe Mr Passon Hodzi also commended the Second Republic for the gesture.

“We are thankful to the President for providing this land and establishing residential stands for youths,” he said.

“This is a step in the right direction in empowering the youth. Youths should always be considered when it comes to development issues and we are happy that our President is walking the talk in youth empowerment.”

Another youth, Precious Chizhowa, said the gesture by the President should be commended.

“This is commendable. We are waiting for the completion of all the necessary works so that we can start building our houses. I am excited, all I can do is to thank President Mnangagwa for the recognition,” she said.
