Masvingo City Council has started rolling out its multi-million dollar sewer project after receiving $13 million devolution funds from Treasury.
Work on the sewer trunk line project stopped seven years ago owing to funding challenges.
The project involved the construction of a 7-kilometre sewer line from the new suburb of Victoria Ranch to the main line at Rujeko pump station.
The development is expected to bring relief to over 10 000 households at Victoria Ranch that were relying on Ecosan toilets because of the absence of sewer infrastructure.
Acting city engineer Edward Mukaratirwa hailed the Government for financial assistance to the local authority under devolution.
“We received $13 million under devolution and the bulk of the money is going towards the sewer trunkline project to connect new houses in Victoria Ranch to the city’s sewer system,” he said.
