Chitungwiza residents want the local authority to conduct a forensic and skills audit following recommendations made by a six-member commission set up by the Government to investigate alleged irregularities.
Mr Edgars Seenza led the commission, which recommended that Chitungwiza should have a new organogram that responds to the needs of service delivery to consolidate its management and general staff payroll to curb financial leakages.
There are revelations that some employees, both managers and general workers, do not have proper educational qualifications.
Other workers reportedly do not know their job descriptions.
The recommendations are contained in a report compiled by the commission and presented to council by Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo last week.
Minister Moyo set up the commission last year to investigate alleged irregularities in human resources, land sales, corporate governance and the circumstances around the dismissal of town clerk, Dr George Makunde.
Dr Makunde’s fate remains unresolved since September 2 when he was suspended by Chitungwiza mayor, Councillor Lovemore Maiko, on grounds of not reporting for work, gross insubordination and disobeying instructions.
In an interview, Clr Maiko said Minister Moyo presented the report to council.
“Some of the major highlights recommended are that we should have a new organogram. The other recommendations are that we must have a forensic audit,” he said.
Clr Maiko said the skills audit exercise was already in their plans.
Chitungwiza Progressive Residents Association secretary-general, Mr Gift Kurupati, welcomed the initiative.
“Gone are the days for jobs to those who are not qualified as it produces poor results.”
