WALKING long distances to access health services in Chimanimani District’s Ward Five is now a thing of the past after a new clinic was constructed using devolution funds.

Prior to the construction of Hotsprings Clinic, villagers in the area had to travel long distances to the nearest clinics at Chakohwa and Nyanyadzi which are about 13km and 16km away respectively.

This posed challenges for the elderly, children and pregnant women.

Around 10 000 from the surrounding communities will now benefit from the construction of Hotsprings Clinic.

Officially opening the clinic recently, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokhutula Matsikenyere, who is also Chimanimani West legislator, said the fruits of devolution fruits are now benefiting the people.

“The commissioning of Hotsprings Clinic is going to alleviate the various challenges the locals were facing such as walking long distances to seek medical services.

“Government under National Development Strategy (NDS) 1 is prioritising quality and affordable healthcare provision which promotes and improves wellness in pursuit of Vision 2030,” she said.

Speaking during the same event, Chimanimani Rural District Council chief executive Mr Nehemiah Deure said they had allocated part of the devolution funds towards the construction and renovation of three other health centres in the district.

“Apart from Hotsprings, major renovations on roofing, painting and plumbing were done at Mhakwe Clinic in Ward 18. The facility services over 3 000 people. Mhakwe Clinic complements the nearby Biriri Hospital. We are also constructing staff houses at Saziya Satellite Clinic,” said Mr Deure.

The local authority also used part of the devolution funds to purchase a backhoe loader, surfacing Wengezi Rural Service Centre as well as construction of the Kopa vegetable market, among other projects.
