A FARMER learned the hard way that crime doesn’t pay after he was busted trying to sell diamonds to undercover cops — and has now been slapped with 5 years behind bars!
Cephas Mukombwe (45) was convicted at the Harare Magistrates’ Court for unlawful possession of precious stones, violating the Precious Stones Trade Act.
On 4 April 2025, Mukombwe and an associate tried to pull off a quick diamond sale at Fife Avenue and 3rd Street in central Harare — not knowing they were dealing with detectives in disguise!
During the sting, he confidently whipped out two sparkling stones from his wallet — and was immediately arrested. Tests by the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe confirmed the stones were genuine, weighing 1.64 carats and valued at US$174.93.
Now, Mukombwe will spend five cold years reflecting on his “precious” mistake.
