A NIGERIAN man based in Bulawayo is facing serious fraud charges after allegedly cooking up fake love stories to stay in Zimbabwe!
Kelechi Godwin (52) is accused of forging spousal support letters to secure Zimbabwean spousal resident permits — despite his real wife, Patience Godwin, reportedly skipping the country back in 2008!
Between 2009 and 2014, Godwin is said to have submitted fake documents pretending to be a loyal husband. In one jaw-dropping twist, he even brought another woman to an immigration interview, trying to pass her off as his wife.
The fraudulent moves led to the issuance of multiple permits, damaging the Immigration Department’s good name and administration.
After his arrest, Godwin was granted bail on 15 April 2025 under strict conditions:
• Deposit US$400
• Stay at a fixed address
• Report twice a week at Bulawayo Central Police Station
• No tampering with witnesses
He’s set to return to court on 30 April 2025 as investigations continue.
Authorities have warned that fake marriages and document scams are a serious crime that won’t go unpunished!
