Rhumba outfit Diamond Musica has lined up a show tonight at Harare’s premeir joint Jazz 105 to welcome back one of its founding members Shaka Zulu.Shaka Zulu is the group’’s lead guitarist and have been out of the country doing music projects in Tanzania and DRC.
Pitschou Lumiere Diamond Musica’’s lead vocalist said the group has been rejuvenated by the return of Shaka.
“He has been the essential missing piece to make our musical puzzle a complete one and already there are signs that what we have set out to achieve will come to fruition since he has seamlessly fitted into the group. The fans have also been impressed and given him a warm reception,” he said.
The fiery lead guitarist, arranger and producer who was based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, says he was excited to be back in the country, which he described as his second home.
“It feels good to be back. I am excited to see my fans and friends after a long time ago. I am grateful for the love and I feel appreciated for the good work I did for the Zimbabwean music,” he said.
Shaka was instrumental in the release of Diamond Musica’s chart-topping album “Amaule” and he worked alongside musicians such as the late Simon Chimbetu, Tanga WekwaSando and Willom Tight, to mention a few.
However, Shaka said he was still willing to work with other musicians besides his long-time ally Pitshou Lumiere.
“I know Pitshou and we have come a long way such that he’s like a brother to me, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t work with other artistes.
“In fact, I want to record with other musicians for as long I am still here,” he said.
The new album will also feature two songs “Focus” and “Dollar” as well as a remix of “Amaule” as Diamond Musica’s comeback trail gathers momentum.
It remains to be seen whether they will match, let alone surpass, the lofty standards they set themselves during their heyday when the hit song “This Is Good” catapulted them to instant fame.
