FORMER Hwange right-winger David “Dididi” Khumalo has died. He was 61. Khumalo, one of the few talented players that made the game look ordinary, died at around midday on Saturday at the Hwange Colliery Hospital, barely a few hours after being admitted after complaining of sore feet and an upset stomach.
Family spokesperson and son, Kelvin, said his father had been well all along, although he would occasionally complain about his feet. “We are still to come to grips with his death as a family. He has left a huge gap in the family,” he said.
Kelvin said funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised.
He said his father would be laid to rest in Hwange where a number of football greats are expected to be in attendance, among them town legend Amos Rendo, Isaac Phiri, Weekly Mwale and his former coach Paul Moyo.
Khumalo played alongside the likes of Rendo, Skeeva Phiri, Nyaro Mumba, Mwale and Isaac Phiri, among other Hwange football legends. He is survived by wife Stali and four children. Mourners are gathered at D75 Lwendulu Village in Hwange.
