Dinha hails business support

prisoners and impart them with skills to use after completing their jail terms.
Speaking at a field day hosted by Zimbabwe Prisons Services and Pannar Seeds at Guruve Prison Farm, Mashonaland Central Governor and Resident Minister, Martin Dinha commended businesses educating prisoners rather than condemning them.
“Businesses have to take part in assisting prisoners throughout the country since the Zimbabwe Prisons Services is carrying out projects that involve farming.
“This is necessary especially at this time when the country is facing serious economic hardships caused by the illegal economic sanctions imposed by the West thereby crippling the government’s full ability to support public institutions.
“These efforts help boost the inmates’ food basket, the nation at large as well as prisoners with agricultural rehabilitation skills which will help them on reintegration,” Governor Dinha said.
ZPS Deputy Commissioner Agrey Huggins Machingauta, said they engaged in farming to reduce the burden on the budget allocated to them.
“The farms around the country will go a long way towards self sustenance and reducing the burden on the fiscus.
“The department is working on a system intended to be practiced on all farms and invest more money on viable projects.
“This will determine how much will be saved from the fiscus in order to justify the worthiness of the prison farms,” Dep Comm Machingauta said.
However, Dep Comm Machingauta applauded Pannar Seeds that offered support to their farms.
He revealed that at the 30-hectare portion they expected a bumper harvest of more than 120 tonnes.
