Dinner helps Natasha raise US$44 000

Herald Reporter
At least US$44 000 was raised at a dinner held on Thursday in Harare to help ailing Natasha Sanyanga who needs an urgent operation in India. The five-year-old Natasha is suffering from a plastic anemia, meaning her bone marrow and the blood cells found within it are damaged. “We are humbled by the gesture shown by Zimbabweans and we hope they continue to do the same to other people. It was particularly humbling that in just seven days people heeded the call and raised the US$44 000 and the balance was pledged by an anonymous donor. In the event that Natasha’s bone marrow does not match with any of the family members then the donor will still pay for the bills even if it means getting the bone marrow from the international donors,” Mrs Kurai Kingsley, the family spokesperson said.
Natasha’s red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets are failing severely, weakening her immune system.

In addition her blood does not clot meaning she has an increased risk of haemorrhaging to death if she gets hurt.
The dinner saw superstar Oliver Mtukudzi his daughter Selmor Mtukudzi Manatsa, Baba Shupi, Jah Prayzah and Tariro neGitare taking part for the worthy cause.

Mtukudzi who performed solo played some of his yet to be released songs before he invited Jah Prayzah on stage. It was a joy watching the two on stage.

Natasha is expected to leave for India today at midday.
