DINO MUDONDO IS BACK. . . to perform at home for first time in five years

RASTA Kwasa musician, Dino Mudondo, says he can’t wait to perform on home soil for the first time in five  years.

The reggae singer is back home on vacation, after spending  five  years in South Africa, where he has been performing at festivals, and selected gatherings.

He has also ventured into the coal mining business to supplement his income.

Dino’s home-coming party has been set for The Usual Place at Jameson Hotel tomorrow.

“It feels  great to be back home after such a long, long time. 

“Like the saying goes, east or west, home is best,” he said.

The ‘‘Jatropha’’ hit-maker said he was homesick, which prompted him to fly back to Zimbabwe.

“When you go to a foreign land, there are a lot of things you will miss about home, especially  freedom.

“Uko you will never feel free uchingoharaswa nemapurisa asking to see your passport, permit  and the language barrier makes it worse.”

He said he was missing the local diet.

“I had missed Zimbabwean food and, of course, our music.

“In South Africa, it’s all about amapiano and nothing else on their playlists.

“Sometimes, I would just sit at home reminiscing about  my good old friends and family in the good places I used to go to and perform peacefully.

“I was missing the peace we enjoy in Zimbabwe.”

Explaining why he took five years to perform in Zimbabwe, he said:

“I took a five-year break from mainstream music when I relocated to South Africa, where I have been studying and working in the marketing field of mining.

“So, after college in Cape Town, I got a job in Witbank,  Mpumalanga, and worked for a certain company as a marketing manager for three years.

“However, the microphone kept on calling me back and I would always find myself on stage doing what I love doing the most, which is music and live performance.

“While in SA, I would do shows with some of the country’s top acts which also helped me a lot in learning other skills in this field.

“I would also do shows with other Zimbabwean visiting artists like mukoma Alick Macheso, Sulu,  Killer T,  Andy Muridzo,  Davitah Chimombe and a lot more with Nox Guni, who is also based in South Africa.”
