THE transformation of Mt Hampden into Zimbabwe’s new administrative hub is progressing well, with the completion of eight state-of-the-art villas at the Diplomatic Village, marking a significant milestone in the development of the emerging capital.

A site visit yesterday revealed the fully completed villas set among beautifully landscaped surroundings, with additional units at various stages of construction.

The villas, nestled among lush green lawns and gently rolling terrain, reflect the Government’s commitment to world-class urban infrastructure, in line with the nearby new Parliament Building.

Wide, freshly surfaced roads meander through the estate, featuring underground drainage systems and manicured verges that enhance both beauty and functionality.

Each villa boasts expansive glass panes and modern finishes, testament to architectural excellence.

The Diplomatic Village is being celebrated as a symbol of renewal and forward-thinking leadership, showcasing a vision for a more organised urban landscape.

As construction continues on additional phases of the project, these first eight villas provide a confident preview of Zimbabwe’s urban future: refined, orderly and full of promise, urban planning experts say.

Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe said the completion of the villas indicates that Vision 2030 is fast becoming a reality.

“Vision 2030 speaks to the provision of modern, sustainable and affordable infrastructure and housing for all,” he said.

The minister highlighted the reconstruction of Mbare Traders Market as a prime example of urban transformation, underscoring the Government’s commitment to building better.

Special Presidential Investment Advisor Dr Paul Tungwarara said the completed villas showcase real progress and the President’s dedication to national development.

“The President is walking the talk on national development. These tangible developments reflect a strong commitment to uplifting communities,”  he said.

Deputy Chief Secretary Engineer Amos Marawa, who is presently out of the country, expressed confidence in the project through an official who said the progress at Mt Hampden demonstrates the commitment of President Mnangagwa’s administration to delivering quality developments.

“This is a clear sign that we are serious about creating a world-class diplomatic and Government centre,” he said.

The villas were constructed using pre-stressed concrete slabs manufactured in Switzerland, allowing for superior quality control.

The Swiss company, Mabetex Group, was contracted to lay the precast walls, while a local firm, Bitumen World, handled the foundations and roads.

Mabetex specialises in large-scale construction and urban development projects, enhancing the overall quality of this initiative and reinforcing the vision for a modern Zimbabwe.
