A NKAYI man was yesterday arraigned before the courts for allegedly striking with a brick a villager who had been chosen to become headman for Gwitshi area.

Qhubekani Ncube allegedly struck Mpiloyethu Sikhosana, 46, after the man failed to explain to him why he was chosen as the area’s headman.

Ncube appeared before senior regional magistrate Mark Dzira facing attempted murder charges and was remanded in custody to January 19, when his trial is expected to commence.

According to the state, led by Tinashe Dzipe, on October 11 last year at around 2PM at Gwitshi Business Centre in Nkayi, Ncube approached Sikhosana and asked him why he had been named as the area’s headman.

Sikhosana did not answer and Ncube picked up a brick and hit him on the head and went away.

The injured Sikhosana was rushed to hospital.
