Disrespectful son in court

THE Biblical verse that advises children to respect their parents seems to have no meaning for a 19-year-old man who was sued by his mother for treating her “very” disrespectfully.

Nyalalani Ndlovu (42) from Mzilikazi suburb in Bulawayo claimed her son, Devout Ngwenya (pictured above), was a problem child.

She said whenever she tried to address his behaviour he would shout her down by mocking her adding that she was at a loss on what to do to stop his disrespectful and violent behaviour.

“I am a female adult aged 42 and also an applicant in this matter against my son aged 19 years old. I had been staying with him since birth but of late he developed a habit of insulting me while alleging that I am not his mother.

Sometime in May this year he once threatened to stab his younger sister aged 16 years.

“As a result of his violent behaviour I once called some family members to counsel him but he didn’t change his behaviour. He even threatened and vowed that no one would change his behaviour. I am now living in fear because of his violent actions which also traumatise me.

“My prayer is that a protection order be granted against him so that he stops abusing me together with his siblings,” pleaded Ndlovu.

She said her son was making her life unbearable. In response, Ngwenya refuted his mother’s accusations.

“It is not true that I am insulting her. We once had problems when I was reprimanding my younger sister for her wayward behaviour and that is when she stepped in to calm down the situation,” tersely responded Ngwenya.

His response didn’t go down well with the presiding magistrate Tinashe Tashaya who lashed out at him saying with his ill-mannered behaviour he was starting a “solo” journey to prison.

“If you think you are grown up move out of the house because with your disrespectful behaviour you are starting your journey to prison. Go and behave,” charged the magistrate before he ordered Ngwenya not to verbally, physically and emotionally abuse his mother and siblings.
