UK-BASED praise and worship singer, Sylvia Moyana, feels she is an emissary of God.
She believes she was sent to redeem lost souls through her spiritually uplifting gospel music.
The songbird, who has just released her debut album titled ‘‘Mwari Munoshamisa (My Testimony)’’, says gospel music has the power to heal bleeding hearts.
Over the years, she has been releasing singles with two of them — ‘‘Nguva Yatopera’’ and ‘‘Zorodzai’’ — popular with fans.
“My vision is to reach out to people and carry each other’s burden.
“I want people to relate to my music and be encouraged and know there is God in heaven who sees and hears us,” said Moyana, who is working with star producer, Lyton Ngolomi.
Moyana, who claims to be doing music as part of God’s Ministry, told H-Metro she was ready to change people’s lives.
“I believe it is a calling. For a long time, I wanted to record and get into the music industry but it didn’t happen.
“God led me to sing gospel for souls not for sales.”
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Mathias Mhere and Kudzi Nyakudya, Moyana addresses social issues using her music.
“I get inspired by everyday situations, by people, by my life experiences. My motto is life is grace and favour.
“I still remember back then, people used to care for each other, share and unite as families. As kids, we would gather as a community to play without being scared of any kid missing or getting hurt,” she said.
The multitasking songbird said proper planning is working in her favour considering her busy schedule.
“One has to plan properly and balance things. Of course, family comes first but there is always that spare time, that’s when I can do music. I thank God to have a family that understands, everything becomes easy,” she said.
Moyoana vividly remembers her early days in music.
“I can say it (music career) started way back as a young girl, I grew up singing in church.
“As I am still growing, I am still to meet people who can show me the way.”
Like any other artist, Moyana, believes she is on the right track after making a breakthrough in her career.
“My breakthrough in music came in 2021.
“I just felt it in my spirit that this is the time. God had already put people in place, people that I worked with to produce my first single.
“I can say it was God’s time.”
She added: “I still maintain my Ubuntu and morals. I am married.
“I live with my husband. Our children are adults, who have their own lives to live.”
With most celebrities struggling to handle fame, this is not the case with Moyana.
“My music is to glorify the name of the Lord, not to promote my own name.
“So my personal fame is not an issue.”
She, however, conceded that she was also facing similar challenges faced by fellow artists in showbiz.
“Exorbitant prices we pay when recording our music is one of the problems we face.
“Marketing our music, lack of support also affects us. I have got a full time job. I have other side hustles.
“A lot is going on, things are hard on almost everyone but music brings joy to the soul. As Zimbabweans, and to those who believe in God, let’s keep our faith. Support our music and musicians.”
So who is this woman called Sylvia Moyana?
“I was born in Gweru then moved to Kwekwe, Mbizo at an early age.
“It was a family full of love and God fearing. There were four girls and four boys. Six of them are late.
“I attended primary, secondary and tertiary education in Kwekwe.
‘‘I had my Acting Diploma in Pretoria, South Africa.”
