FORMER Warriors, Dynamos and CAPS United defender, David Kutyauripo, has taken his Diaspora Fitness Club to the next level by establishing a social football club.
Kutyauripo earned the nickname ‘Diaspora’ during his playing days.
He then decided to use the same name for his gym and social football projects.
Diaspora Fitness Club was formed three years ago and the social team this year.
The team also plays against opponents outside Harare.
The Diaspora outfit has so far played in Mazowe and Goromonzi and Kutyauripo said their next stop is Mvurwi.
“I realised it was important to have a social league team because we would do our weekly routines from Monday to Friday then had nothing to do on weekends,” said Kutyauripo.
“It has worked out so nicely because gym members can now go the extra mile in burning calories by playing football.
“Diaspora members attend the social football team’s games, with the ladies being the main cheerleaders of the side.”
He said the weekend social football games have helped members to look out for one another.
“During the week, everyone just disappears after training.
“But, since the establishment of the social football team, members are now closer to each other than before.
“I’m very pleased with the progress we are making,” he said.
The Diaspora team is also rich in former footballers.
Former Premier Soccer League players Archford Gutu, David Sengu, Tendai Samanja and Ashley Rambanepasi have all turned out for Diaspora.
Tinashe “Terminator” Mapira, who made history by becoming the first physically challenged player to make it into the Zimbabwe Homeless World Cup team, is also in the Diaspora camp.
