The group was supposed to leave China on Saturday after making five appearances at three venues in Beijing and Ordos.
The 23-member group, which performed before an appreciative crowd, did not disappoint as it dished out song after song.
This showing was however washed away by the rains, as the plane that was supposed to take them in that buoyant and triumphant mood home was delayed in Beijing due to heavy rains that had begun at 10am.
The group had travelled to Ordos on Thursday and made two appearances at Ordos Minzu Hall and were supposed to land at Nan Yuan airport in Beijing on Saturday at 12:30. When the China Air plane finally landed, it was way after 2pm. Hopes were raised when they boarded the plane, but dashed when told to disembark as the weather in Beijing where the plane was going to land did not relent.
This caused the group miss its flight to South Africa.
According to reports, these are the worst rains in 60 years and besides the 13 people who died, 30 000 people were caught up in flash floods and were evacuated as a result of the downpour.
The group landed in Beijing yesterday, and efforts are being made to book them on the earliest flights.
Meanwhile, the group revamped its act in its last show in Ordos on Friday, as it did not do traditional dances like in its previous shows. The new act saw the group doing popular Zimbabwean numbers, accompanied by contemporary dance moves.
They also sang songs like Alamuhun and Beautiful Grass popular folk songs from this region and it got people clapping along and whistling.
