“We expect all the teams to have been trimmed before our camp. Our camp will not be disrupted, thanks to the Government that said schools will now close on 1 August,” Simba said.
A bulk of the athletes who participated at the National Association of Secondary Heads athletics finals in Plumtree in April will represent Bulawayo.
The City of Kings are hoping to stop Harare’s dominance at this year’s games set for Bindura.
In 2010, Bulawayo finished second and last year slipped one place to third.
Last year, Bulawayo had 243 athletes representing them at the Gwanda National Youth Games.
For Bindura, the City of Kings needs $60 000 to cater for the team.
“As part of our fundraising, we will have a corporate event dubbed Decision Makers Ball. We are working on the logistics.
“The Decision Makers Ball will be in line with the 10th anniversary of Zimbabwe National Youth Games and will seek to bring together the city’s captains of industry,” Simba said.
Meanwhile, the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province volleyball teams will use next weekend’s Luvac tournament to round up their preparations for the next Zimbabwe National Youth Games.
In an interview on Friday, the Bulawayo Volleyball Association vice-president responsible for technical affairs, Brenda Mundiya said the teams were almost ready for the Games.
“We have scrapped league matches to allow our National Youth Games-bound teams to finalise on their preparations.
“We want them to bring gold from the Games and according to reports we received from the teams’ coaches, they are almost there.”
Railstars’ veteran Qinisa Fuyana is the boys’ head coach and is being assisted by Patrick Mupira while Nigel Sibangani is the team’s manager.
The girls’ squad is under the guidance of national team star Conrad Kupara who is being assisted by William Madziro with Ntombi Siziba assuming the manager’s role.
