TWO Chimanimani brothers recently teamed up to fatally assault their brother-in-law for divorcing their sister.
John Makove (58) died instantly after sustaining severe injuries all over his body.
Police said John had divorced his wife, Christine Mlambo (38) after accusing her of having an extra-marital affair.
The incident happened last Saturday at around 5pm.
The alleged culprits, Justice Muhlanhama (35) and Tinashe Sokisi (19) were arrested soon after the incident and were assisting police with investigations.
Outgoing Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Superintendent Enock Chishiri, confirmed the murder which happened in Muchadziya Village in Chief Ngorima’s area.
“John met Christine and accused her of having an extra-marital affair. He chased her from their matrimonial home and Christine packed her belongings and went away. She told her brothers, Justice and Tinashe what had transpired. The incensed brothers, armed with sticks proceeded to John’s house. They tied him on a burglar bar and assaulted him with sticks all over his body. He sustained serious injuries. He bled profusely from the nose and mouth. He died instantly,” said Supt Chishiri.
His body was taken to Chipinge District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
The suspects were arrested and are set to appear in court soon.
In an unrelated incident, a 35-year-old Nyanga man was fatally stabbed by his brother (31) after he had restrained him from asking for beer from other patrons. Takemore Gwete was allegedly stabbed by an Okapi knife and died instantly after sustaining serious stomach injuries.
Supt Chishiri confirmed the incident that happened at Gwete Bottle Store at Charamba Business Centre.
The alleged killer, Willard Gwete was arrested and is assisting police with investigations.
“The two were having beer at the bottle store, but a scuffle ensued when Willard started soliciting for beer from almost everyone in the bar. Takemore discouraged him from doing so, but this did not go down well with Willard. Willard dragged Takemore outside the bar. After some minutes, Takemore came inside struggling to walk while holding his stomach. He was bleeding profusely. Willard also entered the bar holding an Okapi knife,” he said.
He was shouting and vowed to stab anyone who dared come near him. Takemore who was writhing in agony died after losing a lot of blood. Supt Chishiri said the escalating number of murder cases had reached alarming levels in Manicaland.
“The rate at which people are murdering each other is worrying. It has, however, been established that most of the cases are domestic related and coming in a family institution. We continue to urge people to solve disputes amicably, seek audience from elders, professional counsellors or police among other groups,” he said.
