DJ Fantan and his ex-wife, Gamu Nemukuyu, are back in the headlines.
Gamu claimed last week that she was living in hell and was being tormented by her former husband and this was taking a severe toll on her mental health.
She said this is what forced her to leave her home in Harare on Wednesday last week, together with her children, and they have now settled in South Africa.
DJ Fantan posted a message saying he was looking for Gamu.
He claimed she had disappeared with his two children.
However, Gamu responded and cleared the air.
She said she left the country because of her ex-husband was giving her a tough time she should couldn’t handle the frustration and the torture she was getting every day.
She said she was being tormented by DJ Fantan and he would call in the middle of the night, would call early in the morning and act as if he wanted to check the welfare of the kids.
She said at one time he called at around 6 am and asked if he could help the kids with homework.
At times, said Gamu, DJ Fantan would just come to her house, saying he was coming from the gym, and he just wanted to check up on their kids and then there would be arguments between the two.
She said she was hurt when DJ Fantan decided to end their marriage and would cry to try and deal with her sorrow.
Gamu appeared to suggest that DJ Fantan was not happy that she had moved on, after the end of their marriage, and she now has a new partner who cares for her kids and also helps her settle her bills.
She said she decided the best way to deal with the situation was for her to move to South Africa where she would not be abused, on any given day, by her ex-husband.
We are not here to judge DJ Fantan.
All that we want is for the two of them to try and find a way to deal with their challenges for the sake of their children.
They owe it to their children to make sure that they mend their challenges.
They owe it to their children to make sure that their marital challenges, no matter how deep they are, should not be the subject of tabloid newspaper headlines.
They owe it to their children to ensure that they are not the subject of social media attacks from some people who are tired of the way they have been using public platforms to shame each other.
DJ Fantan’s profile has grown significantly in the past few years.
He is now a big brand and a number of companies have been hiring him to sing at their functions.
That comes with responsibility and coming out in newspapers, being accused of someone who abuses a woman, is not good for his reputation and his career.
