MUTARE’s popular club disc jockey, Fresh who’s real name is Tichaona Zhuwau celebrated his 36th Birthday bash in style last Thursday at Soul City.
DJ Fresh who is also the co-director of Soul City was immaculately dressed in an all-white suit, showing that the glitz and glamour can be done in Mutare.

In an act of solidarity, Mutare’s household DJs came to support DJ Fresh at his bash; the likes of The Godfather, Ranga T of Tuff Nuff Sound with his sidekick Candyman, Stylez, Touch, Simmz, Ras Blue, Tesco Tribe, Spillz, Silva Vee, Sir Archie  and all the Soul City resident DJs.

The bash also gave the platform to upcoming local dancehall artistes such as Effort Kachemwe who goes by the name Lil Quene and Kolorde Mugwindiri whose stage name is Ghetto Massive, to shine.

Several local socialites came to the bash, notable was the former Miss Mutare and Miss Personality at the 2002 Miss Zimbabwe, Darleen Soma.

DJ Fresh, who has been in the entertainment industry for the past 15 years, said he wanted to celebrate his 36th birthday in grand style to celebrate his achievements in the industry over the years.

From humble beginnings as a mere passionate DJ out to make a name, DJ Fresh now runs his own club, Soul City, together with his partner Obey Hove popularly known as Big Fish. The two have over the years made a name for themselves in the entertainment circles in Manicaland with their entertainment stable G3 Big Fun Entertainment.

From early 2000 to around 2007, their entertainment stable would tour around the province organizing gigs.
However in 2008 they spread their tentacles and opened an open-air club, Pavilion Leisure Centre, which became a leading outdoor entertainment spot.

In 2009 they opened another club, Sports Café, now Soul City, which up to date is still one of the hotspots in Mutare. Pavilion on the other hand eventually closed in December 2009 following rental wrangles with Mutare Polytechnic, the owners of the premises.
DJ Fresh said he was happy with where he was today as he was living his dream.

“It has been a tough journey to get where I am.
“Starting a business in 2008 was a bold decision especially back then during the hyper-inflation days.

“We would import most products from Mozambique and South Africa when beer was scarce locally. We revolutionized the concept of open-air entertainment and we are proud of that up-to-date. Many revelers from as far as Bulawayo would come to Mutare for a weekend outing at Pavilion,” said DJ Fresh.

He said he was grateful to all the DJs who came through to make his day the big bash it was.
DJ Fresh who is on record to want to live an exemplary life to set a positive example to the upcoming young DJ’s in the entertainment industry is an occasional blood donor and gets tested for HIV every year.

Last year he also took up the voluntary male circumcision campaign.
