Kwekwe-BASED disc jockey Steven Sanders, more popularly known as DJ Stavo, thrilled his audience with a mix of old and new Zimbabwean music when he rocked Club Forty 40 in Bulawayo. DJ Stavo, who shared the turn- tables with some of Bulawayo’s finest DJs Mzoe and Ash T, gave a memorable show when he focused on local music from start to finish, a sign that showed Zimbabwean music was gaining ground in clubs and pubs.
Also in the mix was DJ Ash Styles who displayed his mastery of the serato turntables. Ash Styles, who is the other half of a team known as “Game Recognise Game”, played non-stop for two hours giving revellers the time of their lives.

The show was part of his countrywide tour that took him to Victoria Falls, Masvingo and Cape Town among other places.
DJ Stavo is riding high with the single “Yolo” which features Trevor Dongo and “Sweet Love” with Roki, Ex Q, Botswana’s Simple Night and Zeus.
Recently, he shot a music video with South African kwaito star Mandoza for the track “Mnandi”.

For those not in the know, DJ Stavo aka the Kwekwe Hustler has been around for some time. He started out at the bottom in 1999 but enjoyed a steady rise up the music ladder. He has also featured Mandoza of the “Nkalakata” fame on a video called “Mnandi/ (So Good)”.

Of interest is how DJ Stavo, perhaps our own version of DJ Khaled of the “We the Best” fame, appeals to a crossover audience with his excellent delivery.
The three-minute-long video was shot in Johannesburg a few weeks ago and has become an instant hit with fans across Africa and judging by its popularity on social platforms such as Facebook, DJ Stavo could be angling for a Channel O Music Award this year.

And on YouTube, the video made 1 000 hits within the first week of its release indicating that it was one of the most viewed local videos.
The excellent video includes a pool party and club scenes among other mouthwatering shots.

Mandoza is on a comeback trail since he won the Most Gifted Kwaito Award at last year’s Channel O Music Video Awards for his collaboration with Ees on “Ayoba”.
The kwaito star has set his sights on winning big this year especially now that he has worked with DJ Stavo.

While he made waves with his collaboration with Mandoza, locally DJ Stavo merged forces with ExQ for the past three years which has seen them releasing tracks together, namely “Sweet Love”, “Celebrate”, “Feel So Free”, “I Am Not a Fool” and “Take Me”.
