AT the age of 24, Takudzwa Mtandabari popularly known as DJ Teekay has already made a name for himself in Bulawayo’s vibrant music scene as a resident DJ at Umguza Yacht and founder of CleanKulture – a movement that promotes local talent.
DJ Teekay’s passion to promote local talent has earned him a loyal following, as he always fuses his music set with gems by local artistes, who always yearn for a platform to be heard and shine.
The outspoken DJ said he developed the love of being a wheel spinner while he was in high school as he was often given a chance to be a DJ during the school’s entertainment events.

“I fell in love with being a DJ while I was at high school. I got a chance to be a DJ during the school’s various entertainment programs and that made me realise the potential I had, and since then, I haven’t looked back.
“I didn’t go to school to learn how to be a DJ, I did this on my own. I later joined an events company and they helped me polish my skills as I was a rough diamond which later on was turned to be smooth.
“As a young DJ I know what most young artistes go through in the industry as they don’t get a chance to present themselves. I then started CleanKulture – a movement where I help up and coming artistes by playing their music during my sets wherever I play.
As a resident DJ at Umguza Yacht, DJ Teekay got a chance to share the stage with some of the finest creatives including Durban Gogo, Black Diamond, Jah Signal as well as Splash legends Dalom Kids.
